Once You Go Black...

Wednesday, March 25, 2015

Since I have become a member of the Black family, I have been blessed in ways that I do not deserve. We have all made so many memories together already. This weekend, we were able to witness the promise of a new addition to the Black family.

We packed our bags, got in the van (without the bags, unfortunately), and headed to Oklahoma. Besides the small inconvenience of forgetting all of our clothes, Oklahoma treated us well. I am so excited to gain a new sister!

Congratulations Natalie and Jake! We are so excited for you two.

The Traveler's Check List: 10 Things To Do Before You Travel

Monday, March 23, 2015

While working through our marriage counseling in the days leading up to our wedding, Gabe and I took the four temperments personality quiz to help better understand ourselves and each other. So I geared up for my test like any overachiever would, and prepared myself to get the best results possible! I read all of my questions in detail, weighed out the best options, and made my choices. Before long, my result was displayed on the screen.

Melancholy.

That was the result of my personality test (75% melancholy to be exact). My first thought was, "No way, this is wrong! That sounds so....bad!" How could that be my result? Soon, I began reading what the melancholy personality actually consisted of, and there was no denying it. I am a list making, overachieving, perfectionist, melancholy, introvert. Making lists and formulating plans are some of my favorite things to. I was born to be a list-maker!

In celebration of my love of lists and our upcoming weekend adventure, here are 10 things you must do before you travel.

Clean Sheets
There is nothing more comforting than coming home to a fresh, clean, and comfy bed to fall into. Save yourself some trouble and wash your sheets before leaving your home.

Clean Out The Fridge
Your fresh produce and milk can head south fast if you aren't careful. Be sure to empty out your fridge of any leftovers and perishable goods before you travel.

Sweep and Mop Your Floors
Get that house squeaky clean so you do not have to stress about it in you post traveling state.

Take Out The Trash
There is nothing worse than coming home to a house that smells like week old trash!

Pack
Okay, so this one is obvious, but it never hurts to double check that everything you need gets packed into the car. If you aren't careful, you and your husband might both leave your luggage sitting on the bed by mistake and not realize it until you are a state away.... I am not bitter or anything.

Clean Out You Car
This is a must if you are going to be spending a lot of time in the car traveling to your destination!

Wash and Put Away All Laundry
This is just another thing that you will not have to worry about when you return home.

Take Care of Your Fur Babies
Whether you are packing them up to take with you, or making arrangements for them to stay, get all of this worked out beforehand so you aren't half way down the road before you realize you need to find a house sitter.

Prepare Road Snacks
Buying snacks along the way can not only get expensive, but it also tends to be very unhealthy.

Budget
This is a biggie! Be sure you set up your budget ahead of time, so you are free to buy what you need, but also know your limits. This will save you a lot of grief and worry in the long run.

Here is a free traveler's checklist print off that I made for you guys! It is free to anyone for their personal use.
